ABOUT
There used to be a "BIOGRAPHY"
posted here based on an interview I did with an online hip hop magazine. I was
too lazy to replace it before but now I have some time. I can't lie either, the
guy made me sound so cool. None of my thoughts on Star Wars, comic books, video
games or my collection of basketball/baseball/hockey cards made it in. Somehow
it didn't fit the whole "resistance" slogan.
In a nutshell, this blog/website
has gone through various transformations. It all started when I discovered what
politics and history are. I then went on a rampage lambasting the evils of
religion. Well, that was mid-high school. I read a couple of colonial resistance
books and I discovered this outlet. Years of grammatical errors aside (not to
say you will find none on this site today), I went from only reading
'Goosebumps' (some of you oldies remember) outside of school to trying to
comprehend 'The Wretched of the Earth' by Frantz Fanon. Took me two reads to get
it. Even then, I wasn't so sure if I understood it. I don't even remember much
of it now. Fast forwarding, I eventually started reading Noam Chomsky's writings
which really helped me flush out my thoughts. Somewhere down the line I started
to pick up on spoken word and rapping. It was another outlet for me to flush out
my thoughts and opinions. Finally, a couple of years after 9/11, without going
into details, I converted to Islam. Let's just say it all started when I spotted
my Muslim classmates from my Latin American courses coming out of the washroom
soaking wet from doing wudu (ablution with water before prayer/salah). From
there, my interest in political activism peaked.
In previous iterations I tried to
draw a separation between commenting on political issues and Islam and the
Muslim community. If you have been following this site you would know that my
ability to draw that line is basically non-existent. My effort was mediocre at
best. In time, it just became impossible due to the political, cultural and
social atmosphere that Muslims are facing worldwide. Also, my closest circle of
friends are always discussing issues pertaining to Islam and the world so this
is just my sly way to cheap shot them and get the last word. With all that said,
that is not to say I will not be commenting on a wide range of topics.
I am no scholar, millionaire nor
do I masquerade at night as the emo Spiderman from Spiderman 3. I am just some
Muslim guy who raps, does spoken word and has opinions on every thing. I'm also
not going to hesitate to post about my other interests on here (ie. sports). And
no, not every one will like what I say about the Toronto Raptors, Barack Obama
or the upcoming Spiderman reboot, that's fine, a lot of people don't like me,
join the club.
Anyway, that wasn't so much a
nutshell but numerous barrels of peanuts.
In the spirit of resistance,
